Overview

Acacia gum is a natural gum consisting of the hardened sap of various species of the Acacia tree. Acacia tree grows all over Africa throughout the Sahel, from Senegal to Somalia. However, most of the world’s gum Arabic comes from Sudan, where a thick belt of Acacia Senegal trees stretches from one end to the other. Sudan is the world’s largest producers of gum Arabic and Sudanese gum accounted for 80% of the global gum trade. Gum Arabic is edible, and used primarily in the food industry as a stabilizer, emulsifier and thickener. Types of the Sudanese Gum Arabic:

Acacia Senegal:

also known as Hashab or Kordofan gum and considered as grade one. Acacia Senegal is a pale to orange-brown coloured solid, which breaks with a glassy fracture, for this reason known as hard gum.

Acacia Seyal:

also known as Talha gum and considered as second grade. Acacia Seyal is a pale amber gum nodule and known as flaky gum. Widley used in cosmetics and in combination with medicines and in the agri-food industry.

• Moisture content: ≤ 15.0%

• Total ash: ≤ 4%

• Acid insoluble ash: ≤ 0.5%

• Acid insoluble matter: ≤ 1.0%

• Starch or dextrin: Absent

• Tannin-bearing gums: Absent

• PH: 4.1 – 4.8

• Arsenic < 3 mg/kg

• Lead < 2 mg/kg

• Cadmium < 1 mg/kg

• Mercury < 1 mg/kg


Packing & Shipment:

Gum Arabic is packed in 25kg or 50kg synthetic fibre bags and shipped in 20 feet containers which will carry up to 22 metric tons
